Monday was a day of workshops. Here we see the Deputy Director of City Government giving orientation of City Government.

The County Government workshop attendees had an opportunity to view a video tape of the workings of county government. The video explained the various offices within a county and their relationship to each other.

Ashland County Commissioner Matt Miller provided insight at the Party Politics and Campaign Strategy workshop. The sharing of his experiences will help the delegates in forming their own strategy plan.

The Highway Patrol is an integral part of Girls State. During their workshop, delegates received information, which will assist them in passing the examination, which is only part of the process for selection to the Buckeye Girls State Highway Patrol.

In order to become an elected official in the Judicial System at BGS, girls must first pass the bar exam. This open book exam, if passed, will allow the delegate to be either an attorney, law director, judge, or the Attorney General.

Executive Director of the Ashbrook Center, Dr. Peter W. Schramm, addresses those delegates attending a special University seminar "The Principles and Practices of Freedom in American Politics" workshop.

Buckeye Girls State was especially pleased to have Christa Lutman, Regional Public Affairs Director, and Kelly Sweeney, Assistant Attorney General for the Cleveland Office, representing the Ohio's Attorney General, Jim Petro, at the workshop.

Also participating at a workshop was the Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, Sherri Dembinski. Joining her was Marissa McKinstry of the Legislative Affairs Division for the State of Ohio.

Senior Audit Manager Kim Blake represented State Auditor Betty Montgomery and addressed the attendees interested in Auditor or Treasurer Offices.

The BGS band director auditioned those interested in participating in the always talented Girls State Band.

After attending the various workshops, the delegates began the election process. Seen here is the Chandler County caucus for the Nationalist Party.

Not to be outdone, the Griggs County Federalist Party exuberantly endorsed their county and state candidates.
